hmm, i saw a preview screening of this film in los angeles and the two leads in the movie spoke (via interpreter) afterwards. i really wanted to love this but just didn't. it definitely has moments, most of them the young star (a girl in real life, though she plays a boy). but the uber-cute animated alien character was just mediocre, and the film was too violent and scatological for American sensibilities, though i'm sure kids will like the poop scenes. plus it gets repetitive. i loved 'shaolin soccer', 'kung fu hustle', and 'god of cookery', and am fond of several earlier stephen chow movies ('forbidden city cop', etc.). this one is just poorly constructed and weak in comparison, though as i mentioned it does have moments.
