This movie was a waste of time and money. The tepid attempts to remove religious controversy from a story *about* religion make the whole thing fall flat. The director clearly felt he was too good to actually bother reading the books, and the writers must have left on strike before the script was finished. Though there was a lot of talent, talent can only do so much to make up for crappy directing and sloppy writing. Don't waste your money. Buy the books instead.

i felt quite the same. especially about the ending, and about the major changing-around of most of the plot points. sam elliot is amazing, though.
